Education & Outreach

The education and outreach program was started in June of 2009 and offers events that are educational, hands-on, and community oriented.

One of our major campaigns for the summer months is the Share the Harvest produce donation program that supports five local food shelves (and over 50 families) by giving them locally grown produce supplied by backyard and market gardeners alike.  This program donated more than 500 pounds of produce!

The first round of classes took place during the fall of 2009. Classes included learning how to make butter, yogurt, mozzarella, sauerkraut, soups and stews, sushi, as well as classes dealing winter health and nutrition.

The latest campaign is working with the South Royalton School and interested community members to bring fresh local foods into the school cafeteria.  Groups have been formed to perform different tasks, from growing to processing to cooking. Everything is done on a volunteer basis, and we are more than happy to have new volunteers!  If you are interested, send Laura an e-mail at the address below.

Stay tuned to the News section of the website for updates on future classes and events.

Laura Ginsburg is our Education and Outreach Coordinator.  With a background in food service, farming, and education, she hopes to bring a variety of classes and activities to the market, as well as increasing sampling on Member Appreciation Days and during special events.

Do you have a class idea that you think would be a hit or suggestions for activities or events that you would like to see happen at the market?  Contact Laura with your idea at: outreach@soromarket.com
